Frequently Asked Questions

What to expect on your first visit to physiotherapy?

On your initial appointment, your physiotherapist will sit down with you 1:1 and take notes on your injury. This will include when and how it occurred, how it is affecting you, and the goals you wish to achieve. After this your physiotherapist will complete an assessment which will include specific tests to diagnose your injury. Once your physiotherapist has discussed your diagnosis with you, together you will go through a specific treatment plan tailored to your goals. Please see our Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy tab for further details on the different treatment modalities we use.

How long are treatment sessions and how many sessions will I need?

Initial appointments will be 45 minutes long in duration and follow up treatment sessions are 30 minutes.

Every individual and injury is different and will require a tailored approach. Your physiotherapists will discuss your optimal rehabilitation plan at your first appointment. This will take into account injury healing time and your personal goals.

 What should I wear?

We recommend you wear loose, comfortable clothing that you would normally exercise in. This will allow your physiotherapist to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the injury.

Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?

Please complete the consent form prior to your initial appointment. This can be found online under our contact us tab. You can print this off or send it electronically.

If you have any Xrays, MRI or imaging reports please bring these with you as it will help your physiotherapist in diagnosing your injury.

Do I need to see a Doctor first?

No you do not need to see a doctor first. You can book in directly with us if you have a musculoskeletal injury. If we feel you would benefit from a medical review, we will advise you on this and with your consent also write to your GP.

 Can I request a chaperone?

Yes, if you wish a chaperone to be present during your physiotherapy appointment please let us know prior to your appointment so we can arrange this for you. Alternatively, if you wish to be seen by a female physiotherapist we can also arrange this for you with prior notice.

What are telehealth consultations and how will my injury be diagnosed?

Due to the Covid-19 lock down and social distancing regulations, we have been unable to see our clients for face to face appointments. In response to this, we have developed a new telehealth service which enables you to still get the treatment and advise you need.

Telehealth appointments use interactive video call technology for an online appointment. Your physiotherapist will take a detailed history of your injury and may ask you to perform a series of movements which can help to diagnose your injury. Your physiotherapist will still be able to give you a diagnosis along with a tailored rehabilitation programme to help improve your symptoms.

Can I give feedback regarding the treatment I have received?

Here at South Coast Rx we welcome feedback so we can continually reflect on the quality of our service and make on going improvements. If you would like to leave any feedback please email southcoastrx@gmail.com. Alternatively, please leave us a google review here.
